Baltimore isn't nearly as bustling as it sued to be.
A study done by the Economic Innovation Group analyzed over 25,000 zip codes from around the states gathering information regarding educational attainment, housing vacancy rates, unemployment rates, poverty levels, median income ratios, percent changes in employment and percent change in establishments. From this study they have revealed the most distressed large cities that have a population of over 400,000 in the United States.
5. Baltimore, Maryland
5th on the list is the eastern city of Baltimore, Maryland. 48% of its population is distressed which can be seen everywhere within the city. Some claim it has to do with the manufacturing and steel jobs leaving, while others claim it is the fault of the city for investing in the suburbs with new roads, schools and homes leaving the city full of poor school districts, high crime rates and ineffecient roads and transportation. The median income for the city is $41,385 but is $73,538 for the state.
